I used to suffer badly and occassionally have bouts of it now. It's easy to say you should try and focus on something that can hold your attention and provide no reasons for paranoia but, in truth, the application is somewhat more difficult. Look for anything batter to do which reduces your time spent in free thought. As I said, very hard to do and requires a great deal of effort to maintain but possibly the simplest way to deal with it. Paranoia is extremely irrational whether based on good reasoning or not, you'll need to be strong to tackle the source directly and that may just increase your feelings that way. Scratching an itch can make it worse now and again. Take heart in knowing we all suffer to some degree and have varying ways to deal with it. Find your path and follow it, if you get a little lost (and we all do) please come back and ask for further directions.

I'm really suffering today. I know why I feel low. I haven't been to the gym in 5 days, and I got really drunk last night. Doesn't help though. I was talking to my Dad and I burst into tears and he doesn't cope with it well, so he asked me to call my Mum. i honestly feel like killing myself today. I wish I could stop going round in circles with this. I guess I should see a Doctor again.

Its not usually a good idea to think that youve got to a certain stage in your depression when you think you can cope with it with no help and just go cold turkey, it'll always come back to bite you in the arse otherwise. Seen it happen many times myself.

i honestly feel like killing myself today. Don't, I beg you please. I guess I should see a Doctor again. Much better plan. Stress of moving can't be helping you. Talk with friends and family and don't do anything you or they will regret.

Talk with friends and family and don't do anything you or they will regret. To take my mind of it all, I did sometyhing I seriously regret - went to the ikea sale! I didn't manage to get back out for 5 hours! I feel marginally better having spent the day eating daim bars and buying tat. My Mum, Dad brother and best friend have been tag teaming me on my mobile all day. I guess maybe they had a pow-wow after I went into meltdown this morning. Don't worry, I am gonna go see the doc first thing next week.

I'm going to tell you what I've heard all my life. Step up or step aside.
Step and be a man about it and handle it or step aside and let someone else handle it. That is tough love.

Much as I never expected to say this...
Sonny is right! Telling people who are seriously depressed isn't at all helpful. Some people might simply be able to work their way through it. But it's not always possible. And a few (prescribed) pills are _FAR_are better than alternatives.
I was very happy when the doctor told me I could come off the pills. And bar a couple of incidents I've not come anywhere near that low again. I hope I never do it's like being in a tunnel with no light and thinking that you might never see it again and being willing to do _anything_ to get out. And I do mean anything.

gotta agree there rev. depression and tough love are two absoloutly seperate things.
tough love is showing little or no compassion to someone, yet depression needs compassion on a multitude of levels.
though my own depression has been fleeting ,its been an eye opener, and i can see benders point. some ppl may not be depressed and need a kick up the backside, but the ppl who do suffer depresion , i have much sypathy with.
