So I have spent the last two weeks panicking as I have to move out of my current crappy studio flat in about a week an a half.
Having looked at about 10 places and come up dry (one at £220 a week even appeared to have *poo* on one of the walls!), I was seriously considering the potential that I may be homeless!
GODSEND! Found an awesome place today in my local area. Moving up in the world, I got a 1 bed flat, massive rooms, newly refurbished, balcony, new applicances.
Scary money per month (£910 before bills, yes, thats $1800 for you yanks with your huge mansions for $600) but hey it is London!
To put it in perspective, the crappy place I'm in at the mo is nearly £600 a month anyway...
I just can't believe how lucky I've been though - I had to fight three couples to take it. Luckily, my ploy of upping my weekly price offer by £10 a week and then racing down to the estate agents office to do paperqwork whilst they all "thought it over for ten mins" worked a treat. Suckas!
I can't remember the last time I was this happy!
No longer will I eat, shower, cook and slep in the same room! No longer ill I pay for electricity on a bloody key! No longer will I share one unclean khazi with 1 psycho and 6 chavs!
It's expensive, but it's all mine. Now I just gotta get me some women... lol
I know this is a dull thread, but I had to share that with you guys.

Gosh darn and poo, AD! That's just disgusting monies for housing...
We fought for a near three years to get out of a one bed flat in a high rise, the first two years with one baby and the final year with a toddler and a baby and that was costing £400 ($800) a month. We are now the proud residents of a local authority who kindly gave us a two bed ground floor flat with garden for a touch over £300 ($600), albeit they handed over the keys on the 20th December (what a great Christmas present lol).
But DS, 900 knicker for a one bed place in London sounds pretty durn good. It's nice to find the right price for privacy huh?

Geez dude thats £200 more than my mortgage a month or a 3 bedroom house! Where do you live though? I have no deposit to buy a house and don't want to buy until the market crashes.

Borehamwood, 25 mins into Kings cross or Moorgate.
I know what ya mean about the crunch. I'm seriously regretting buying last year now. Luckily the house is still worth significantly more than my mortgage.
Congrats on the flat though dude.

The prices of places in London and Edinburgh really perplex me at times. Sure you're paying for the luxury of living near the centre of town, but when you consider what you could get a little further out, its just astounding.
Right now my girlfriend and I are paying just under £280 a month, and we've got a huge house. My friend who lived in London was struggling where he was and moved out to Essex, his mortgage now is half of what he was paying in rent before, and has a much larger place.
But anyway on topic - Its cool that you've got somewhere you'll be happy in.

Bloody prices to rent on this side of the country are insane. My crappy 2 bed flat with a kitchen the size of a stamp is £700 a month before utilities! Thats for a place in the retard infested, cess poll arse of the country!
I want to move out to Wiltshire, its lovely out there and the places ive seen are huge and cost less money to rent.

Congrats DS, getting your own place is one of most satisfying things in life. Enjoy the feeling while it lasts. After a few mortgage payments and times spent looking at wistfully at toys you can no longer afford the joy fades a bit
