Photoshopping a fusion cannon onto his arm may have worked better Megatron will be a special effect so it's concievable they can change him quite dramatically if they want. They changed the Predator quite spectacularly fairly late on if I remember, and besides that may just be one phase of Megatron - it's not like he didn't change in the last movie...

I think this is Evolution vs Revolution. Pretty much all the Transformer toys that have been released since G1 have evolved from a basis aesthetics. The designs of the new movie dont really share any of the characteristics of previous generations. What I find odd is how different the Blackout CG model and toy mould look. The toy looks within transformer styling but the CG model with the added detail and exposed wires does not. The area around the arms is a good example. Megatron is the most extreme of the design but its the "whos that" that really makes him stand apart. Atleast you can tell that Prime is prime.....Megs might aswell be audition for the next Alien vs predator film!

I'm with GD, this may or may not be Megs as he will be throughout the film. People are buikding their expectations too high and it'll never live up to them. I'm with the 'let's wait and see what the film is actually like when it's completed' crowd.

To be honest I like what theyare doing with the film. They are trying to make it as concievable as possible - hence the no really obvious facial features - why would a robot need a nose, why would it be on his face anyway etc. So from that point of view it makes sense to have the faces look different.
The transformation has to look more advanced than G1 too, simply to make it seem like they are robots first and vehicles second. They want to have robot modes that are versatile and can move without hinderance - by having fragmented forms this is made much easier.
In terms of megs - I like the robot mode in a way, because it is alien, and thats what transformers should be. Why would they look like a robot form of a human.
If they just used G1 designs they would be ridiculed - simply because they wouldnt be believeable to the general public. Now I know that Prime has been shown to work as a 3D model - but others wouldnt work like that. Think of all the extra bits on a toy - even alts. Use hound as an example. Realistic car mode, but when in robot mode there is a lot of stuff hidden behind his back and you can tell what he transforms in to. With the new designs they look sleak, and you cant instantly say oh thats a jeep for the most part.
They could include a few more homages i suppose - the one everyone seems upset about is starscreams face. But how can you turn such a human face in to one that isnt and keep the homage.
I actually agree that the characters of the robots should stay the same if they have one of the originals name - but in terms of how they look or transform or the story - thats what i will go to the movie to see.
If you want G1 then you get fights about origin not to mention "naturally occuring gears and cogs -im sure the audience would love that".
I will wait for the film and watch this alternate version of transformers, just as i have watched G1, beast wars, beast machines, RID, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron - all different takes on transformers.
This isnt a G1 film or tie in. It is just another version of transformers.
Oh - and glad to see that there isnt 20 odd pages of hatred going on with with everyone slagging off the entire production of the movie -I have stopped reading the TFW2005 boards cos of this.

I sencond that Loosecannon, im frequently on seibertron.com & there's nothing but complete haters on there, like alot of others im all for the re imagining the transformers appearance but i do feel that they should have stuck more to the source material for referrence for the film, so far all ive seen of the bots that makes me really want to see the film is the toy prototype of incinirator (helcopter bot) since his design still keeps the core essence of transformers where as if you look at the pics of prime's & Bumblebee's robot mode for example they wouldnt be able to transform realisticly which is the whole reason Bay/Murphy said the bots would not be blocky, I say bring on the movie it should make for an intresting watch, i only hope that the fan base is not getting a load of crap saying " these arent the final designs " when they turn out to be since that will elliminate alot of the fan base & may do some harm to the franchise.

I know the movie isn't going to be great, but I don't think it's wise to keep complaining about it so much when we've not seen anything yet.
And with everyone in production being lenient and letting us know some of what's going on that's at least nice to have, right?
I mean, what's the possibility that they're holding back a few suprises...
