That's why BW was so good though, lots of the toys were really close if not identical to the show.

Sure that happened later... but I'm positive the reason the first wave had problems was due too lack of comunication with Mainframe and probubly no proper samples too work from, or like I said they just took liberties in the designs as they didn't think it would matter too much and save them money.
BM was less show acurate in my opinion. But I think that had too do with the odd designs not relating well.

I dunno the first wave of BW toys was pretty good IMO. There were guys like Terrasaur that got let down but some of the others were decent representations of their show selfs.

Didn't say it wasn't good. Its just they wern't as acurate as the lines that followed.
Terrasaur and Dinobot being some of the main ones too suffer toy wise... even though I actualy like both the toys... they just arnt as similar too their show forms

better articulation with most of the toys too, ok so Rampage was a bitch too balance but come on, he must easily be one of the most awesome TF's ever made!

Well, when I first saw BW I, like many of the other people out there thought "But Optimus can't be a bloody monkey!!!!!!!" and well when I saw the first altercation between Dinobot and Megs I thought "Starscream and Megatron updates. Check." (obviously that theory was thrown out the window when Dinobot joined the maximals)
However, it wasnt until after a few years and I got really back into Transformers again (long story envolving college electronics course and looking for books in the attic) that I saw BW on video and by that time I was part of the web and reading other tf fans ravings for the toon that i got in to it.

Yeah. I think that's part of the reason they killed him off suddenly, since they'd gotten the confidence to take Beast Wars in new directions, no longer needing to follow the linear route set by G1. Scorponok was just plain boring, of course.

Ahhh...
I can't remember whether I saw the toys or the show first. Actually the very first thing I heard about Beast Wars was on Ch4's video games teletext sight which said the transformers were big again in the USA. They mentioned CGI and Predacons, which of course got me thinking of the G1 Predacons.
First impressions of the show were poor. I saw the second half of episode one. After that I gave up on it. Not Transformers at all I thought. Saw the toys in Woolworths, which has me excited till i got a good look at them and dismissed them out of hand. It was a let down after the short run that was G2 Uk.
I did buy TM Tarantulas at one point as he looked really cool. I picked up the special TM repaint of BW Scuba which came with Aftermath on video, which was to prove very fortuitous as it was not released in the UK. I loved it but couldnt find any more videos until...
...the Universal videos came out and I was hooked. The characterisation was already well established so there was some working out to do but it was great. Quickly got all the rest of the series and Beast Machines from Ebay.
Luckily, there was loads of surpluss BW toys floating around various cheap stores or on sale at Toymaster that year. What with those, some visits to comic shops and the occasional ebay purchase (plus conventions for 3 series one character figures) I now have a complete BW collection, minus siily rare things like gold versions or whatever.
Beast Wars rules. Certainly my second fave line after G1.

i think Beast Wars had to be brave, it had to to survive. It was the first major Transformers toy line since G2 started, it was the first show to be fully CGI and they radically changed the idea of robots in disguise by making them animals!
then it became genius, killing off major and established characters in shock moments was just class. Thats why the series has lived on and become a major favourite with the majority of fans worldwide.

Exactly. Season 2 was the point where the writers became confident enough to take the series in their own direction, rather than retreading the old G1 route. The "betrayer" role in the Predacon camp was very cluttered, with Terrorsaur, Tarantulus and Blackarachnia all at some point trying to usurp the balance of power in some way. Terrorsaur was sumarily killed and Blackarachnia switched sides, letting Tarantulus justly take the limelight. Likewise, you got it right with Scorponok and Inferno. They both occupied the same role, so the less interesting one had to go.
