Megalo Convoy (MC hereafter) comes in a rather hefty box. I can't tell you anymore about it, as it's stashed away in the cupboard. MC is packaged in robot mode, so I shall start the review with...
Vehicle Mode
MC is an excelent representation of a big plastic thing. The vehicle is over 17cm tall & 32cm long. It, presumably, is supposed to be some sort of demolition vehicle, as the most obvious feature is the black atatchment atop, with its big blue chainsaw, and blue claw (which can be opened & closed!!). The claw also has a slot for Horri-Bull (HB hereafter), MC's mini-con partner. There is a wealth of detail across the mould, from cogs, to pneumatic tubes, rear facing guns, bulldozer thingys, although the caterpillar tracks are a little simplistic. Not counting HB's unique minicon point, there are 8 hardpoints. Overall, MC's vehicle mode is underwhelming. I'm not one to moan about Sci-fi altmodes (cos I usually like them), but the problem is that MC doesn't really look like anything.
Transformation
I never read this part of a review, so I'd encourage you to do the same. Suffice to say, the transformation sequence is rather simple.
Robot Mode
There are 20! intentional points of articulation, and a couple that are products of the transformation sequence. MC is reassuringly bulky when looked at head on, and the majority of his joints are ratcheted. The level of detail is very good, and MC has a general air of power. His head is something of a Metroplex homage, featuring two distinctive antenae. MC has 12 minicon hardpoints in this mode. MC stands well over 30cm tall, and is as poseable as the best modern TFs, and a damn slight better than most. However, from the side he's a little anorexic, but nothing too worrying.
HB attatches to MC's forearm as an unconvincing cannon, and the forcechip can be inserted into a slot in the chainsaw, miraculously transforming it into a doubleheaded axe with a weedy red light & stupid noise. Without the chip, the chainsaw rotates with a flurry of gratifying little clicks.
Horri-Bull & Convoy
HB's name is uncomonly apt & is adapted from the Leader-1 mould. In vehicle mode, any imaginary people situated in the cockpit would be unable to see where they are driving. when attatched to MC as a gun, HB's robot torso & head is clearly visible.
MC also comes with alittle Convoy, which I imagine is the HOC one. Not quite sure why you get this, err... delight, but beggars can't be choosers.
Overall
MC has an excellent 'bot mode, let down by a disapointing altmode. Is it worth £40? Well, let me put it like this: I don't feel as if Takara have mugged me, so I suppose it is. However, if (!) it gets a release over here expect to see it for £20 about 6 months after.
MC is vailiable form both Noeon Martian (where I got mine)
