In the UK we use £ Sterling. Most of the rest of Europe use Euros. I'm sure there's another couple of European countries don't use Euros.
1 Euro is roughly 75p, which hardly fluctuates in value. As you'll probably know the Pound and US Dollar fluctuate in value all the time, and right now you get almost 2 US Dollars to 1 Pound.
I read somewhere that for US Residents buying off E-Bay it works out slightly cheaper to buy things in Euros, and let EBay do all the other calculations.
I'm sure someone else will be able to give you more details, but that's about the basics.

[glow=red,2,300] Politically, the Euro was a means towards integrating us into the European Union, the idea being that one unified currency and one unified Euopean passport system would make us one happy unified family...
The UK and (If I remember correctly) Denmark have both found ways to 'opt-out' of the Euro, whilst any new States wishing to join the EU must adopt the Euro as currency (I believe they have to commit troops to the UN Peacekeeping force as well... but don't quote me on that!).
The British Government declined the Euro on grounds that the Pound (our historical unit of currency) being much stronger than most other European forms of currency would result in a significant depreciation of UK goods, property and interests.
The British People declined on account of it not being cricket... [/glow]
