Since I'm primarily thinking about classics hope it's OK to put this in this forum...
I'm going to San Francisco and then New York (Manhattan) soon. Can any of our american members recommend places to shop that's central ( I won't have a car) where I can get me some Classics and Alternators (Rumble and Mirage hopefully) at american prices?
I'm also interested in places where I can get marvel legends, gi joe, heroclix, comics, SOTA figures and japanese imports
Any tips?

When I was in New York last year I only found Transformers in 2 locations (Mind you I wasn't checking every shop). They were in Times Square Toys R Us and a small comic shop a few blocks away. For the Alternators your only hope is a Wal Mart. Check this thread at TFW2005 for San Fran sightings; www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=86545

You're off to San Francisco?! Sod the TF's, make sure you go down to Fisherman's Wharf and seek out a little standalone building called Bodin's Sour Dough pizza. Best pizza in the world, with a great view of Alcatraz thrown in for good measure.

Try Image Anime in New York - they sold quite a few tfs when I was there last year. It's round the corner from madison square garden. Ah and their website still lists some alts. Still buy all the tfs you want, I'm taking their anime section home. www.imageanime.com/index.html

Well just got back from my trip literally an hour ago (would've been sooner if British Airways weren't ****)...
San Francisco was pretty much a write off, the only places that had anything were Walgreens grocery stores, most of which had the final wave Cybertron Deluxes (e.g. Primal, Beast Megatron, Clocker), Titaniums (Soundwave, Rodimus) (which even at about only £6 each I couldn't get excited about) and classics legends like Perceptor.
The most promising place was Jeffries Toys at the east end of market street. As well as a large range of comics and collectibles, forbidden planet style, they had the protoform toys (junk AFAICT) and both cybertron and classics deluxes, mostly mirage cliffjumper and ramjet. They also had a big bunch of Alt Ricochets but no others.
New York was more successful, although the Walgreens here didn't stock 'proper' toys. TRU in Times Square had a wide range of cybertrons, the mirage/cliffjumper/ramjet classics (at only $9.99 each). They even had GI Joe (including the last DTC wave). I like how TRU in the states sells toys cheaper than other places not more expensive than other shops like they do here.
The Forbidden Planet in Union Square is pretty poor for anything but comics unfortunately. More reasonably priced (compared to UK, still expensive compared to local shops), but nowhere near as big as the London one. I found another comic shop opposite empire state that had the protoforms too. I looked but couldn't find image anime and tokyo toys.
Best of all though was KB Toys in Manhattan Mall. I went in here last week and they had some classics, marvel legends and other good stuff. But then on sunday I went by and they had a big 'end of season' sale and it so happened that on monday, yesterday, I had to take the subway from the mall station so I stopped in again quickly and lo and behold they had about 20 pins worth (>100) movie deluxes wave 1, so I picked up bumblebee, barricade, brawl and jazz.
Prices for deluxes ranged from $9.99 (i.e. about 5 quid) to $14.99 - the movie figures cost me $12.99 each, which is pretty reasonable, and probably lower than I'll ever find here (though I figure Scorponok and Wreckage will end up shelf warming at some point).

But both of us do it differently than the other one. You do what you do on the computer while I do the foot work and go to different towns within a 200 mile radius of my house that sell Transformers.

Nooooooo!
Wait first Id like to say........."I was right!HAHA!"
Now AD..............I do foot work and Computer. If your going to hunt....hunt right.
Again......your posting to post.I luv you to death, your my dawg.....but you dont have a clue on what your talking about.
You know what..........It must really suck driving all over the place to find nothing or the same old same old............
A hint to make things easier.............Use Bigbot.com for release dates/toy store exclusives. Then you hunt the stores.A good idea is to befriend whoever is incharge of the toy section.Key...... to when the figs are coming and when there going to hit the shelfs.
Work smarter not harder............Bimp!
lol
