I did this a while ago, it was the first mod ive ever done to a TF. Anyway i didnt like the dull paint of the original toy and since he isnt a rare figure to come by i figured it wouldnt matter if i screwed up the paint. I had a few different ideas, some real radical ones too, as well as a G1-style smokescreen repaint but the Nascar style paint job doesnt really suit a stock Subaru Impreza IMO. So i kept the character original and went for a G1-style Bluestreak repaint, with a touch of rainbow metal flake for an added edge of originality. I used an air brush for this job, and paints designed for real cars so the end result is a bit lumpy due to the size of the metal flakes and the thickness of the lacquer. I could have laid the lacquer on real thick and that would have smoothed it out more, but if i had i wouldnt be able to pose or transform the figure since the thick lacquer would have basically sealed all the joints. Anyway let me know what you think.

Claymore: Its basically a clear coat. Once you have painted something, you wait for the paint to dry then go over the paint with several coats of lacquer to make things shine like a shilling up a sweeps arse!
And finally someone commented in this thread!

Not a big fan of Alternators but that paintjob sure makes that figure very tempting. Maybe when I'm better at the repaint thing I'll get one myself and have a go.
