Okay so we've now seen the film once and will see it again tonight, overall thoughts. The film was good, could have been better in places, a very small percentage of the CGI looked a little odd (Hover Damn), it really reminded me of a mix of Jurassic Park and Small soldiers, as I thought it would do. The transformation sequences were amazing, especially the two Main Optimus Prime ones. sometimes the shots on the transformations were a little close (in our opinions) but it was still good.
I think that general audiences will love it, die-hard fans may be a little disappointed but equally as excited as the robots look great up on the big screen, it sells the series well without making it look dumb, and there are some great G1 references and quotes.
Megatron does have a big gun, though only uses it the ones.
Lots of action means that the film has a fast pace. It creates a good universe and leaves it open for future films really well.
Mountain Dew bot needs a toy though.

"Mountain Dew bot needs a toy though" seconded! And devastator hmmm? what happened to brawl being called brawl? I thought it was great, a little too kinetic with the camera during the fight scences (espcially Bumblebee vs Barricade) but then you see a shot of ratchet for example stood in the backround of a scene towards the end and the light is reflecting off've him perfectly and even though you know it's fake you swear it looks real, having said that, it's not perfect all the way and i did find the allspark shrink/transformation was the main fx downer. But the main thing is that my guest was my mate Paul who is not into Tf's at all is now on the strength of this getting at least all the movie line and I may have to lean him towards a masterpiece/alternator collection, if all non fans are converted this way we could be in for some interesting times

Yeah the film should certainly bring in new people.

Yeah the film should certainly bring in new people. I hope it does.. I just wonder if they will understand the history between characters.. etc.

my only complaint and it is very minor.....
is why was everything made by the allpspark automatically evil inclined?
surely it would have made some that werent automatically weapons and destruction orientated?

i have read somewhere (possibly another forum) that he novelisation explains this a lot better than the movie, something along the lines of it can give life to any machine but only transformers have a spark already so aren't prone to unthinking madness

I thought the CGI in the film was awesome, although you just know when they were using the props, like when bumblebee was on the back of the tow truck shooting at brawl it looked a bit odd.
The best part for me was when Prime took out Bonecrusher, man he was brutal, I loved how when he punched bc all the components in his head just popped out and then Prime's finisher (he should be in mortal kombat FATALITY XD)

CGI was fantastic, really flowed, humour was excellent, the dialogue was good and im glad they used Cullen to do the narration. Was pleasantly surprised at the amount of Transformer time in the show and I love the fact so many peices were left open ended. Action rocked ass and story was good too, I see big things for this movie

My heart was in my mouth most of the time!!
My mate who came with me doesn't know a thing about TF's yet he could follow it, which bodes well for the general public.
I did wonder if the fight scenes were gonna be a little like the old cartoon (i'll get you next time prime.... blah blah blah) but was glad to see that wasn't the case.
Yeah Prime was pretty brutal with bonecrusher ;D

It was truly awesome as seems to be the general consensus.
I know most fans were sceptical beforehand but I really think they did a great job. The film had a tremendous pace to it. My dad, who was my guest, loved it too and he knows nothing really about TF's.
The CGI was awesome and most of the time you forget it is even CGI. The humour was great and I loved all the in jokes and references (who didn't love Bumblebee dinging a VW Beetle in the car lot!)
The only minor niggles (and they are minor) is Brawl is now Devastator (and not even mentioned in the press package at all!) and Jazz is dead!!!! How can you possibly kill off my favourite Autobot in the first film!!!

Well they killed Prime in the 86 movie and it looked like they pretty much killed all the decepticons by the end of this one, so am guessing they can bring them back somehow.....

Yes I was very sceptical before hand. And yes I will now say it was an AWESOME film, but I still hate the robot designs. Still, much like the last TMNT film, the character design doesn't matter because the film is so well done and enjoyable.
Mountain Dewbot and cellphonebot were cool. Bumblebee was far cooler for being a camaro and not a beetle - that worked well.
The plan of hide in the heavily populated city though may rank as one of the world's stupidest ideas though. How to sacrifice hundreds of innocents in one simple step - lure a Decepticon assault team to them! The destruction of the city was cool though, reminded me of the end of civil war only with an actual winner.
Having not read up on anything prior to the movie though I have to say, it didn't a job of giving the Decepticons any character at all but I don't care, I enjoyed it and can't wait to watch it again at Botcon ;D

I loved the scene with the Autobots in the Witwicky's garden. Optimus Prime was so, OPTIMUS like. I am so relieved that the robots had such a lot to say.
