yes i'm back from the wilderness, some peeps have probably forgotten me, some peeps probably dont even know me. Basically every now and then i get a little disillusioned with the fan community and amble off but keep a close on things from afar or get so disgusted i leave it alone completly. Now i've returned to this awesome site again and see the great news that there's a new Transformers cartoon . . . . . . . . . . . . then i see it WHAT HAVE THEY DONE? what has happened to the animation? what has happened to the characters we've beloved since 1984? did somebody at Hasbro get high while having a gun pointed their head allow this past the test shot phase? i thought maybe it was just me so i showed it to my gf, we've been together 4 years and i've managed to turn her into a huge TransFan, she confiscated all the sharp objects in the house for fear of me cutting my wrists in severe depression altho she did almost burts into tears when she saw Bumblebee. is this what we have to look forward to? i surely cant be the only one thinking this? The characters look so childishly drawn and sound so irritable, after the leaps and bounds forward we've been lucky to have since Beast Wars is this now it? I tell you this must have the greatest story line since Beast Wars/Machines or even the Unicron Wars in Armada/Energon to help save it. Hopefully this isnt our darkest hour . . . . . . . . . . .

I think it looks terrible myself, and the bits I've seen of it seem to be full of everything I hate about modern cartoons/anime but I'm choosing to try to ignore it. I wasn't sure what I was expecting as to be honest I'm not a big fan of any of the shows though I knew I wasn't gonna get the gritty non-cutesy stuff I had been hoping for. Beast Wars was the most mature written but I still find it's CGI a massive turn off (Hell I don't even like most of Pixar's stuff). It's not too bad though, cos the movie stuff is keeping me happy enough (despite the constant repaints) and I re-read my Marvel UK comics a lot and started drawing my own lil story last weekend. Despite me not liking the look of the new cartoon and it's toys, I still hope it does well cos I don't want the Transformers success being ruined after such a great year. I'll just do my best to ignore it like I did with Armada/Energon/Cybertron and RiD though I may be tempted to try watching the first couple of episodes and see if the plotting and voices are ok but I don't have high hopes.

It's not for you it's for the kids. If they wanted to make a cartoon show aimed at your demographic...then the ratings would be low they would cancel and no more TF's at all. I see it as a way for my KID to like Tf's. nothing more, nothing less..The cartoons currently being developed are aimed at kids.

Welcome back Gruff. Sadly Soldier x is right, the kids like the Teen Titans style and the kids are where the real money is. Just take a look at Nintendo Wii sales... I watch a lot children's cartoons and so the style doesn't bother me. Obviously I'd prefer it was G1 style but that ship has sailed. Hopefully the new style will succeed where Armada/Cybertron/Energon etc have failed to really catch on and we can keep lots of transformers on the shelves. For if it does well then Hasbro will have the money to spare on Classics and the shops will actually stock them. btw Teen Titans cartoon is great fun, if you don't like it you're too old *oh yes, GD's mental age is not far off the target audience*

I see it as a way for my KID to like Tf's. nothing more, nothing less..The cartoons currently being developed are aimed at kids. Would it not be safe to assume that the reason that Transformers has survived for 20 plus years is because of the fans it started with? Would you not argue that fans and collectors kept toy sales high? What about Dreamwave's and IDW's comics? were they aimed at kids? The film was a 12 cert here in the UK and almost a 15, kids film? I sent a txt to my cousin yesterday about the new cartoon and told him to check the clip out, he showed it to his son. His comment was "when are the Transformers going to appear?" thats a 10yr old's response. Lets face it, the film payed homage and started a new continiuty that was both realistic and gritty, importantly audiences could relate to it and the toys are selling like wildfire. Now we have this. . . . . . . . . . an overweight Bulkhead, Bumblebee looking like a Dyson vacuum cleaner and Megatron looking like a sex toy with wings. We can all bitch about the little things we didnt like in G1, BW,BM, RiD, Armada etc but we all enjoyed them and all more importantly bought the toys, dvds, comics and kept interest in the product alive and Hasbro afloat. So 2 quick polls for you 1) do you want Bumblebee to change into A] Volkswagen B] Cammarrao C] A Dyson 2) Megatron's most menacing alt mode was A] Walther PPK B] Tank C] Jet D] Cyber Dildo controversial comments as always but i'm not afraid to say it

Rather unsurprisingly I agree with GD's points. I am for the new designs and the new cartoon (the little i've seen) and I have high hopes for it. Teen Titans is also an ace cartoon, and whilst the animation took me a little while to get used to, I absolutely love it now.
I think the new designs is merely the next step on from what's come before. It's just like when everyone went spare about CGI BW animation (and they did if you remember), but most have since done a U-turn and like it.
Everyone raises some good points, and as always it comes down to indivdual tastes. It's each to their own, and I think HA hit it on the head when he declared his wise decision to just sit it out. I personally ignored everything after Armada and a little bit into Energon because I couldn't stomach it, that was just my decision. Animated won't be the last TF cartoon we ever see, and I guess for those that don't like it they can just hope the next one to come along is more to their tastes.

We're quiet excited by the new series, yes it looks different, but it has had to be as the last three shows have sold terribly, and the CN style is currently the top selling look. Look at shows like Ben10, its lead to one of the top brands internationally in the last year.
With American and Canada sorted in terms of releases, you may wonder what's happening else where in the world. Well I spoke on the phone with the powers that be yesterday afternoon and its good news for a lot of people
