Presume everyone has read the news coming out of Botcon, especially this: tformers.com/Hasbro-Whats-new-in-2008/8005/news.html

and wondered what your reactions were?

For my part:

Classics 2.0

Good

- Licensed car designs in non-movie years (and hopefully unofficial real cars used too, like they did for hot rod)
- sideswipe, arcee, sunstreaker, ironhide all being considered
- ultra sized figures and combiners being considered

bad

- not until autumn 2008!

New Animated series

Good

-Some toys, such as Dinobots, may be less stylised than animation, perhaps integrating nicely with Classics. New prime is supposed to be similar to classics prime.
-Decepticons held in reserve to emphasise true threat
- Prowl looks suitably 'ninja', replacing the athletic Jazz role played in the movie. wonder why.
- bumblebee has face based on movie battle mode mask
-written by X-Men and TMNT writer
-partnering with CN to get good showing slots
-starscream will have forward swept wings
- ni gimmicks

Bad
- Not enough decepticon screentime
- Autobots mostly emergency vehicles if you check the preview poster, they all seem to have emergency lights, even prowl (bike) and bumblebee (unmarked police car?), and the others are ambulance, fire engine and swat van.
- Teen titans/The batman highly stylised animation and coloring.
- bending over for CN to provide a replacement for teen titans
- doesn't pick up from movie story

Movie toys

Good

- Arcee figure very close to unused movie design
- Osprey VTOL based figure could be cool

Bad

- Leader Brawl looks naff
- Wreckage could have been a lot cooler

Small correction though on the new Transformers Universe line.

The current designed Classics WON'T be liscenced. They'll be stylised to look like real cars, but not so much that they'll have to be authorised.

Universe will be there as an all-encompasing line to do the Classics, Robot Heores and any other non-cartoon related items.

Im annoyed by the Titaniums being cancelled... especially having seen the new moulds ready for it. I hope we at least get Skywarp even though hasbro says we will not.

Shocked that there hasnt been any signting of what WWI Grimlock looks like. I believe we have seen Prowl.

Sad that alts are cancelled.

Alts being cancelled as a line in their own right is a complete and utter pile of bovine scatology!

It's very annoying that they say this on the back of the San Diego special again this year being a Alt in the form of Rodimus and then announcing a giant Starscream MP-repaint which is just the big Alts they promised in the past IMHO. Just expecting the limited editions of Alts to continue every year at Botcon or SDCC with more repaints is all now.

Still, like Pokemon "gotta catch 'em all!" and with Rodimus being the only one I have left to get I shouldn't complain too loudly whilst fellow collectors are ramping around trying to find some of them. Oh and roll on September with the infamous BT-18 ( another Alt as its going to be plastic)...
