Hi guys ( & gals), just bought Fastlane & Cloudraker, both in v ery good condition... however, they both reek of cigarettes & the grey plastic has yellowed.
I assume this is because of the nicotine. Is there a way of getting rid of the yellowing?
Ta.

try showing them non-smoking ads Maybe. Gum didn't work. DS - I thought as much. Y'know, I'm not anti-smoking - freedom of choice, personal responsibility - if you want to give your kids lung cancer, be my guest. But making toys yellow? It's just wrong.

Cheap toothpaste?
The added calcium content acts as a polishing agent which works well on lightly scratched windscreens too.

I really have to wonder how they could get wrecked by cigarette smoke. Did their previous owner live in an unventilated shed with their chain-smoking parents or something?

They are probably light faded - UV changes the chemical structure of the plastic causing it to 'fade and crack at a very small level, if that happens in a smoking household the smoke gets into those small cracks and can make it worse over time - and will explain the smell. I also had a TF sent from a smokers house once - it was fine, but the newspaper it was in stunk - making the figure stink for a while basically - smoking makes things stink!

Nicotine won't yellow the plastic itself, but could stick to it and make it look yellow and smell. This woudl wash off though. In this case it will be light fading (Jetstorm is terrible for this - he'll yellow under household lighting let alone sunlight). If you wanna get the stench off (and are not too bothered about the stickers getting damp) try soaking it in dilute lemon juice for 5 mins, shake dry, then sit in the airing cupboard.

Actually the nicotine will yellow the plastic. My dad smokes in the bathroom at his house, and they used to have all white shower curtains and white walls once. Few months later everything had turned yellow, and it wasn't from sunlight.

I've had them a week and they still smell... I think i'll try washing them in soapy water, fortunately there's no stickers on them.
