Pre-Earth Optimus Prime

Ok so heres a small and fun little side project i had going on in-between commissions and my larger projects.



















Basically i saw this awful SWTF toy in a store and saw that despite all its flaws it had some potential to make a pretty good looking, pre-earth G1 Optimus Prime.

So i took it home and painted him up with acrylics and enamels (one of the first repaints ive done in a long time that didn't involve any of my usual car paints) in a pure G1 style, added a Movie voyager prime head, and slapped on some old 20th Anni prime smokestacks i had saved.

Since the alt mode is a bit wacky looking, i figured it could serve a similar role as his original G1 alt mode did and transport autobot troops into battle...ironically just like the bio for the original SWTF toy...

Overall im pretty pleased with how it turned out, but i dont think i'll be keeping this one so im thinking of selling it.

In my opinion the best customs are often the ones where the idea can be greater than what you have put in to achieve it. This one really works well and is a great concept. Personally I have more interest in customs like these than say your black movie Prime. Not that it was a bad custom by any stretch of the imagination, but a Prime painted black does little to make me sit up and pay attention.
