Hello guys,
I'm just starting to write a book about selling my childhood toys and am starting by selling my much loved Transformers. I'm not trying to sell you anything, but I thought it might be a nice side-track to write a little bit about the people who collect the stuff I'm selling.
The book is still in its very early stages but if anyone would like to help that would be amazing, either send me a message on here (if you can on this board), reply to the forum or drop me an email: yorkiechris@hotmail.com.
All I'd like to know is a bit about why you chose Transformers, how you got your collection started, what you look for in a bot, do you buy the new ones too, which ones are the rarest, proudest find, replicas/fakes that sort of thing and a bit about yourselves too if you want to share!
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for letting me invade your board,
Chris.

Hi retrochris, good luck with your idea, I'd like to kick this off with a few of my own personal responses to your questions: 1) I chose Transformers as they are the toys that I most coveted as a child. Funnily enough I never ever watched the cartoons or the even saw the 1986 movie as a kid (my mum would only let me watch BBC1) though I remeber discovering them in the Argos catalogue and being literally mesemerised by how mature looking they were for toys at the time. Something I think that still prevails when considering the hi level articulation and die-cast metal of the Generation 1 toys. When you could have Optimus Prime, Sounwave with ingenius cassettes or a very real looking gun with accessories in the guise of Megatron - nothing compared at the time....He-man? Mask? No contest. 2) When did I start collecting, well I kept many toys from my childhood and became interested again in the late 90's (1999) when I discovered they seemed quite collectible on yahoo auctions. Once I saw there worth, I sold most of my collection on, thinking it was a good deal. Then a few years later I went off to university and was in a toyshop near campus and discovered that they had reissued in Takara TFC and Hasbro. I picked up a TRU Starscream, my fist boxed one and got home and started to do my research. Low and behold I discovered just how many collectoible variants were surfacing, ehobby being the one that really got me back into collecting again. 3) What do I look for in a bot? Funnily enough that is not always a pertinent consideration. If I want to collect boxed I prefer to focus on the display of the figure within the box. Though I have resumed collecting G1 again, but being so many I prefer to go for the figures with the most presence, which I assess by sheer scale, on account of more articulation. So you will find in m collection many gestalt, headmasters - I really like the nebulan companion concepts and all of the bases type, Scoponok, Overlord, Fort Max etc. My most cherished (for want of a better word here) would probably have to be Devastator, Piranancon, Trypticon and an original Takatatou VF1S - not strictly a Transformer but very sentimental ad got him for Xmas in1985. I dont like the fakes as they have devalued the market and brought about much unsruopoulous trading.
I could go on and on, but will stop there for now, any more questions would be happy to contribute some more, if this is any help, good luck!
