X I'm going to give a piece of advice L7 told me a long time ago. If you're going to post something in response to someone STOP and think about what you're about to say and how that person might respond to it. Why speculate here I go... 1. I'd like to think that I would respond to the benifit of the group not for my own enjoyment or for any personal vendetta. 2. I type as I think, I try not to modify...once it's said I stand by it. 3. Im never serious about the post I make...especially in roleplays im (in character) 4. If I feel, read or just think your being facetious towards the mates then I will punch and jab at you with comical wit but never really go for the knock out punch or in this case I wont blatently disrespect you..I have grown since TTF mind you. 5. Even as I type this I hope Laserwave doesn't take my post towards him seriously and realizes or hopefully already knows that this is a great board and I would never try to sway him away or make him feel unwanted 6. I will give you enough rope to hang yourself with 7. I should have made this post a two-parter because I could have gotten 2 post in instead of one... 8. Maybe I'll just double post and hopefully get away with it.. 9. The ninth reason is never really important 10. 10, 10, 10 , 10 everything, everything, everything...(violent frmmes)

BUT there have been posts that you've made that can be taken serious and rub people the wrong way. Just because you meant it for the group there is going to be at least one person who gets rubbed the wrong way
Just because you say you're joking or kidding doesn't really mean that we see the expression on your face or what you're thinking at that moment.
In the case of Laserface you may have been joking but you pushed a little over the line and it backfired and he got pissed at you for it.

just a little post from the sidelines...... firstly, Mr Golden Boy Streaker...your post on Page 1.....Me, a NERD? well, the test DID say a little bit nerdy but not hip...I'll give you that... Now, to the main point...this is what I HATE about typing stuff on line... You can NEVER hear the tone of a persons voice. I'll give you an example. "I love you" "I love you" "I love you" First one was a display of passion, second a query (in my speed of typing I missed the question mark, as we all do when typing), third one was a was a display of respect for an action. bet they all sounded the same when you initially read them, didn't they. And thats the issue with typing stuff online. However it may sound in your head as you type it, many of those who read it may hear it in a totally different way. Before anyone says "but what about smilies, those little icons of wonderement that allow us to display our inner feelings", I say, how many times has a seemed ambiguous to you? I'll shuffle away again now.

firstly, Mr Golden Boy Streaker...your post on Page 1.....Me, a NERD? well, the test DID say a little bit nerdy but not hip...I'll give you that... [glow=red,2,000] You soooo know I love you Phil! You're all the Nerd a man could ever want...
[/glow] Now, to the main point...this is what I HATE about typing stuff on line... [glow=red,2,300] This is a big old problem with forums full stop - the problem arises with forum based Role-play due to a mixture of laziness and blurring the boundaries between you and your character.
Dya know what I do before I make any Role-play posts? I read it. I check that the grammar is appropriate for the character. I check that my font is appropriate for the character. I check that the colour is appropriate for the character. I check that what I'm saying is appropriate for the character - 'Is what I'm posting what Blot would say, or is it what I would say?' - I also check to see if my post might cause offence.
A lot of the time in Role-playing what you find is that is that the players drop the characters when a task or scenario is put before them. We get lost in the moment of solving the puzzle, or outmanuavering an opponent.
When we do this, what Role are we playing?
You'll notice on the vast majority of my posts, I'll post in one font for the character, and post in another to give third-person account of what the character is doing. To use Phil's earlier example;
[/glow] I love you. *Mindwipe sneered mockingly at the crippled and broken Autobots* I love you? *Mindwipe questioned quietly, as the dawning realisation of his true feelings hit him square in his CPU.* I love you. *Mindwipe uttered with a smirk as the Horrorcons played a primitive kicking game with Ironhide's head.* [/color] [glow=red,2,000] See? No confusion, no problem just the correct use of the English language (best language in the world, seems kind of rude not to use it properly...).
[/glow] Before anyone says "but what about smilies, those little icons of wonderement that allow us to display our inner feelings", I say, how many times has a seemed ambiguous to you? I'll shuffle away again now. [glow=red,2,000] I also will never use smiley's in a sentence, or to try to clarify a point. They quite clearly don't. I don't see the point in using a poorly drawn hieroglyph to take the place of a well constructed sentence. Just seems daft to me.
That's not to say that smiley's don't have their place.
I think Transformer smiley's are fantastic, and should be used as pictoral referances (not shortcuts to typing characters names...) by players and Storytellers at every available opportunity.

I couldn't agree more Streaky. I know my weakness is getting overly involved in certain creations of my own. When they loose it feels like I've lost something. While that may mean I'm a little to far in character it gets hard to switch it off. I'm like an annoying method actor.
But I have to say while you're example of how to post as a character is all good and what I try to emulate... it wont help misunderstandings that arise like they have here or in the OOC board as we are talking as ourselves, not as characters so there is no third person explanation of how we are communicating. *Steel said with a slight furrowed brow and thoughtful frown*
Although I think that would be freakin hilarious if we all did post like that... unfortunately you'd then know when I'm posting while naked

[glow=red,2,000] Just so ya know Steely, whenever I post I'm always naked...
..unless I post at school...
I don't think this is a problem we can solve... it's a forum problem worldwide - it's always going to happen. We can try to minimise it in our Role-play, but that is about it.
I think these OOC threads are unbelievably important. The discussion needs to be there. Even grizzly old RPG veterans like myself learn stuff about their game by talking about it.
I think we should aim to be sensitive and open with each other, and try to address any situations as they arise... but that's about all we can do I'm afraid! [/glow]

I think we should maybe lay off the "sensitive and open" stuff if we are indeed posting naked. I like you and all but not quite in that way.
But yes these talks are always important.

In a sense we're all naked when we are in role plays...Transformers don't wear clothes... that is unless the Autobots are plotting some sort of trickery and have to wear lab coats to fool decepticons.
