Wandered into Forbidden Planet Glasgow today and they had 6 old Beast Wars toys on one of the pegs. I thought I was seeing things. I've never actually seen a BW figure MOC in real life. They all had the same type of packaging. Anyways, I looked on BWTF.com to see who they were. Turns out they are all from 1996 or 1997. WaspinatorBonecrusher (I already had this guy) CybersharkRetrax (This guy looked pretty cool) Claw JawAnd someone else I can't really remember... Anyways I bought Cybershark and Claw Jaw. Kinda think I should have got Waspy though, given that I hear a lot about him (I'm not familiar with the show) I'll open them soon. Deluxes were £6.99 and the basic was £3.99. Should I have bought them all? Was really odd to find them there.

These are the earlier pre-Transmetal Beast Wars toys where the level of show accuacy wasn't as high. However for the most part they are fun toys. I would have recommended Cybershark first out of that list, so pleased to see you got him. Waspinator is pretty good, but not great, like a lot of the early deluxes. Retrax is one of the BW toys that really divides people - some think he's great, some hate him. I'm in the second camp. If you remember the last one, I'll say whether you should have got him

Yeh, just opened them and I love Cybershark's head - big sharp teeth. I only got 2 because I wasn't sure if the price was that good, and I'm not a fan of the Beast years TFs, but I got curious. I can't remember what the other guy looked like, I looked on BWTF but nothing rings a bell.

Any idea on alt mode - if it was an insect, for example?
Was it a basic (Clawjaw sized) or a deluxe (Cybershark sized)?
Those are good "shop" prices - I'm sure the early BW stuff goes for more than that on eBay, however only 1 of them are show characters so the others might not be as popular.

It was a deluxe and it may have been a brown wolf-like creature, but it isn't that Wolfang guy. I didn't realise show characters were worth a lot more. Wish I'd got Waspy now..

Well it sounds like K-9, who was in the same assortment as Retrax and was a Wolfang repaint (not that we actually got Wolfang in the UK, you understand) www.tfu.info/1997/Maximal/K-9/k-9.htmHe IS a good toy, very under-rated.

I don't think it was him either. Wait and see, I bet it was a green eagle or something when I go back up. ;D

Went back up and found Retrax and.......Jetstorm! I think it was probably him that I saw and thoiught he was Waspinator the last time. D'oh! They're both not bad, Retrax's gimmick is a bit dissapointing. Nice bug modes.

Yeah im in the other camp of Retrax to DB. Hes not the most articulated or best looking robot ever but hes a fun gimmick toy.
Good buy on the Cybershark. TEvery re-use of that mold is ace (Sharpedge and Hellscream) and worth looking into if you like it.

I agree on the whole but I think its unfair to say they are all superb. Every line has itrs duff ones its just BW is lucky enough to have the minority of its toys in that catagory. I suppose it depends on what your judging the toy on (articulation, look, playability, gimmick, originality, 'cool factor' etc). Each to their own

Jetstorm is actually quite under-rated. I found he has a good insect mode and a pretty good beast mode. A solid toy.

Yeah Jetstorm is great as his fingers are setup perfect for a 'vomit action' pose. great stuff.
