I know this has cropped up quite a bit around the boards and I had a thought.. I know, rare, and yes, it hurt.
Maybe have a sticky topic with a list of links to places people bought their storage, shelving etc from and maybe even if they made it themselves, a mini step by step guide on how.
I've seen some pics on here of some peoples shelving, and it's quite impressive!
What do ya think?

Good idea.
I've just used extra deep bookcases from Argos up till now. But those bookcases are bulging, and I'm also getting ready to move my display to the spare room with permenant shelves along one wall.
I've FINALLY found a decent supply of cheap wood suitable for the shelving, I'm just having troubles finding cheap plain brackets. All the shops have fancy ones which cost a fortune.

I use Billy Bookcases from Ikea..
I think once we've gathered enough info we can put together a 'Good Storage Guide' type thread.

I think it's an excellent idea (so it was worth the pain NS ;D). I've seen lots of similar threads on other boards but they tend to discuss US or other foreign retailers so I think it would be very interesting to see what's being used in the UK. Currently about 98% of my stuff is boxed up and in storage as I just can't find decent display cases. I'm looking for something that's dustproof(well nothing is 100% but you know why I want it ) and also well lit, but what kind of lights can you use that don't age the plastic(yellowing etc)?

Hmm, if they are the ones I was looking at.
The one on display diddn't seem particularly sturdy (it wobbled, though this may just have been the display model).
The corners don't meet (so the things on display will get dusty quicker).
The shelves arn't positionable (you can only put them at those heights or just leave them out. Which means if you have a lot of smaller models and wanted to add 1/2 extra shelves you can't)
And they wern't actually that big. (I felt they needed to be at least half again wide, and preferably 1/3rd taller to be useful for me)

I have four bookcases from Argos and a big glass two door cabinet. Anything else is on flat surfaces like thew large window sill (sp?) on the landing and the home made book shelves mounted on the wall in the hallway.

I've mentioned most of this before, but since this will be stickied then this should be the last time...honest My storage consists of 2 customized bookcases and a scratch built display cabinet with storage cupboards above and below I bought my bookcases from Argos I have this and this. I glazed them with glass from 12 large photo frames which I bought for a £1 each. My scratchbuilt cabinet was built using pine boards and doors bought from Focus DIY. The glass doors on the front were salvaged from a really old living room cabinet before it was thrown out. The glass is kind of smokey brown so no UV damage. Pics hereI'm working on something at the moment using a large wooden picture frame, I'll have pics up once it's done.

Hey, TM, I hope you left some air-holes (air-holes, I said AIR-HOLES) in those bags for the TFs to breath. Poor things. The Detolf is an excellent choice for the money (just £35 squidlies). I have 3/4's of my collection stuffed (if you recall my pic from the last storage thread Phill started ) onto the five shelves (the top bit too) & the one particular thing that has stood out is the lack of dust they have gathered. When built correctly it is rock solid and the only gaps you will find are around the door there are Grey rubber strips sealing the back panels together. If you don't use the top as a shelf you have the option to pop in a spotlight & light the collection. Oddly enough I have the rest of my collection on Billy bookcase but I will be buying a second Detolf at some point 'cause they will match but also the stuff in the open on Billy doesn't 'alf gather the dust. If any1 knows of any UV film I'd appreciate a heads up on it as I never knew you could get things like that. Being all glass thats the only thing I worry about with the Detolf.

It depends on what you mean by 'in the open' If it is behind doors it shouldn't need dusting more than once or twice a month. But obviously if there are big holes in the display this will increase (which is part of why I queried using the detolf) Yes on open shelves (like mine atm) they do get very dusty very easily. But again they are easy to clean (simply use a good duster, the microfine ones that trap dust are good) I would have thought using a toothbrush a bit rough for dusting personally. Oh I found another page with a modified detolf cabinet with extra shelves: img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/XRT/ModifiedDetolf.jpg
