Just as note.. Ikea no longer do shelving in the Dark Metallic Grey colour. Which sucks as all my shelving units are that colour. So I now have several dark grey ones.. and one white one. Incidently, the white ones are £20 cheaper!

Excellent topic.
Rev Mirage, I'd really like some feedback ASAP, as I need to invest in some of these units. Time to display again! The dust was getting too bad last time.
How does the Ikea delivery system work? I don't have a lift to bring these units home.
Do you have to buy the glass doors seperate?

Glass doors - you do for the Billy units but not for the Detolf. The Detolf is a complete display unit.
You buy your units as normal and take them to the delivery warehouse.
They normally do delivery same-day or next day (depending on time) If you need it after that ask in the warehouse first as they only do that on a limited basis.
IKEA's small print says that they are only required to bring it to the front door (and specifies the ground floor) at the drivers discresion. I my case the driver said he would bring it up one flight of stairs which left me with the other flight to do myself.

Hey I was lucky to get 2 Excellent condition glass fronted cabinets from a Charity shop for £20 each, they both held a good deal of TF's. So trying a Charity shop would be a good way to not only save money but to get a piece of furnishing which is unique. I also picked up a huge white and very strong Bookcase from a Bootsale for £3. Advantage is, is that it was already build up and the wood was strong, not the cheap wood which comes with some of the newer type bookcases which you get from some furniture shops. TT

We have 6 cases and 2 cupboards. The two large cases, which we took to AA last year are home made with parts from Focus Do It All. We have a smaller wall mounted case with Action Masters in, again home made with parts (wood, clear plastic door). There is a thin, SCF height, 3 ft long wall mounted case - uses the same stuff as the others - and again is home made. We then have two plasic base cases, small, which we got from a dealer years ago with Testshots.
The two cupboards are also home made. The first uses wood from Homebase, cut to size, and glass from Ashford Glass (just round the corner from us). It cost over £400 in the end)
The smaller cupboard uses wood from Homebase and tinted glass from another Glass Shop - can't remember where
